How to Transition Your Wardrobe for Spring with PPL
It can be a bit of an ordeal curating sophisticated looks that you’ll look and feel great in, but won’t freeze in this time of year. Whilst the weather can be troublesome, we’re here to alleviate that morning panic that arises when the temperature decides to suddenly dip 10 degrees and the outfit you had your eye on for today is rendered impractical. Our most sage advice; light layers are your new best friend.
So here’s our handbook to curating chilly weather looks that can be simply adjusted when the weather has a mind of its own. Sacrificing feeling chic and spring-ready, just because there’s an arctic storm outside? Don’t be ridiculous. We’re ready to prove that transitioning into slightly warmer climates and being stylish can go hand-in-hand, and how the right bag can be the cherry on top.
Layering is Key: Combining Warmth & Style
We believe that you cannot go wrong with a long, camel trench coat, a good pair of jeans and a crisp shirt under a jumper vest. Whilst these are certainly some capsule wardrobe favourites, you can absolutely add a little oomph with your choices of colours and patterns! We would suggest a tailored plaid wool blazer with a knitted co-ord and patterned tights.
If you want it to feel more spring-like; opt for a lighter outer layer, add some bleached denim, inject a pop of colour with our new SS25 collection, or mix up your textures and try a suede or denim jacket. As long as you have layers, you have the perfect balance of being warm enough but also the option to peel something off if the sun decides to make an appearance.
If you’re not quite ready to let go of the cosy neutrals yet, our Suede & Leather collection can be a fun way to add some more dimension into your look. We would suggest a Maple City with the Navy Floral to weave in some new tones, and the bag will add structure to a more relaxed, casual outfit.
Accessories That Keep You Warm
Sometimes all you need is to add one little touch to the outfit and you’re all set. A thermal bottom layer, fleece-lined boots, woolly tights, a scarf or hat could all provide needed warmth from the chill. There are many opportunities to make a statement here, for example if you chose a colourful scarf that contrasts your outfit but complements your bag, then layer a long sleeve top underneath a fine knit roll neck, or a lightweight cardigan. The Original Mini in Coral Pink would add a fun splash of colour here - especially if matched to fun accessories like your scarf, hat, socks or tights!
Transitional Dresses and Skirts: Stylish & Practical
Now is prime time to take advantage of the bootleg and wide leg jeans that are everywhere you look, and with a pair of knee high leather boots, some long, comfy socks are guaranteed to keep you toasty. Alternatively, towards the warmer end of spring, you could pair knee high boots with a dress or midi skirt, pop on a light jumper with a vest underneath, and voilà! You have yourself the perfect day-to-night outfit that will keep you from freezing or overheating. If you wanted to dress it up a little bit, introduce a blazer or shirt for that extra sharpness. We’re dreaming of a floaty, floral midi dress with an Oatmeal Original for a feminine yet functional look.
Don't Forget About Colour: Spring-Inspired Hues
Lighter colours reflect the change in seasons, so it's time to ditch the dark winter tones and bring in some soft pastel shades. If it’s too chilly to be wearing lighter fabrics where you are, then colourful items that can still keep you warm are key here! You could choose a pair of off-white jeans, a jumper and a camel jacket, and then opt for paler accessories to trick yourself into feeling an airy, spring vibe. A Powder Blue City would be perfect with this, combined with the Oatmeal Woven - helping it to effortlessly pair with lighter neutrals. This will offer that subtle nod to this season's pastel trends, the almost blooming spring flowers we’re anticipating with excitement.
