London Unzipped: Exploring Our Bags and Their Boroughs - Westminster

Pom Pom London’s guide to Westminster

Westminster is both the political and royal hub of England, containing within it the iconic landmarks of the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and more. Being a tourist for a day on top of a double-decker red bus or navigating the nearby bridges can be a lot of fun, but (aside from our gorgeous bags), there's more to Westminster that meets the eye!

So, where in Westminster should you take your Westminster? Here are our tips…

The Houses of Parliament

Opening Hours - The Palace of Westminster - Houses of Parliament (London)

The Houses of Parliament, also known as the Palace of Westminster, is as good in real life as it is on postcards. When visiting, look out for the Jubilee Cafe, which is a bargain for any tourists to eat at. You can fill up here before taking a tour of Big Ben!

Buckingham Palace

How Much Is Buckingham Palace Worth? Valuation Soars on Hot UK Housing Market - Bloomberg

Buckingham Palace opens its State Rooms to visitors each summer, until the end of September. While, yes, we can all agree the rooms are a sight to behold, the actual masterpiece seems to be the cakes available at the Buckingham Palace Cafe. There’s also an ice cream parlour in the garden, and the Palace focuses on its sustainability across all of the eateries, something driven by King Charles III.

Churchill War Rooms

Churchill War Rooms — Museum Review | Condé Nast Traveler

A lot of what to see in Westminster is historical, and none more so than the Churchill War Rooms where some of the biggest decisions in World War Two were taken. The War Rooms have set up a few different ways of keeping kids engaged, and for older kids they can learn according to their key stages at school. And for anyone visiting there is a great café too! (can you spot the theme...?).

The Tate Britain

Tate Britain | Tate

The last stop on Pom Pom London’s tour of Westminster is the Tate Britain. The Tate is free to enter, making it a go-to for visitors to London. Exploring the best of British art, you can see Hockney, Himid, and Riley in a beautiful setting. Look out for the Djanology Café which is on-site serving fresh sandwiches, salads, and quiches every day. The Tate Modern further down the river is also great for kids so check it out if you have time!
